Recently, there has been a surge in incidents where individuals take risks by purchasing and using counterfeit license plates on the road. Those involved in the manufacture, sale, or use of counterfeit license plates will be subject to a fine ranging from NT$3,600 to NT$10,800 in accordance with Article 12 of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act. Additionally, individuals who manufacture, sell, or use counterfeit license plates will be in violation of Article 212 of the Criminal Code concerning the forgery or alteration of specialized documents. Offenders may face a prison sentence of up to one year, detention, or a fine of up to NT$9,000.

Involving counterfeit license plates, the agency has established an inter-agency cooperation mechanism to enhance enforcement efforts. Additionally, the agency has strengthened employee training to improve the ability to identify authentic license plates, ensuring the prevention of illegal activities.
